07.02. - 20.02. 2005

Work continues aboard SILVER BLUE. The last bigger project is sun covers for the salon windows and side curtains for the cockpit. Those are not only supposed to provide more shade in the cockpit, but also to keep the rain out.
Nela and Antoine are still staying in Columbia until Valentines Day, doing the big family routine. .

Towards the weekend things are getting pretty hushed here in Raiatea with only two topics - "Nancy" and "Olaf", 2 cyclones heading directly towards us with a wind speed of up to 150 knots.
The situation doesn't seem much better on Monday morning and it's about time I thought about were to go and what tactic to follow. The mood in Uturoa, where everybody is hurriedly stocking up their provisions, is rather oppressed and the fact that Nela and Antoine will land in Raiatea in the afternoon causes me even more distress since I might have to find a safe place for them as well.
In the afternoon, around 2pm the awaited news arrives: due to high currents both cyclones turn south. Everyone is very relieved and at the end of the day our small family is also happily reunited again.
What "Nancy" und "Olaf" do bring us is lots and lots of rain. We're actually growing webs between our toes.
But now that we've got a dry cockpit we can set up a nice play-spot for our little boy - a place where Antoine can greet his new Italian friend Alice.

More from here with (hopefully) better weather, next week ...

Until then, take care!
