The week starts, just like the last one ended, with a celebration.
Due to a friends birthday I'm invited to the "Casa de Palmas"
for lunch. The "Casa de Palmas" is one of the countless
colonial houses in the centre of Cartagena. They usually look quite
modest on the outside, apart from the beautiful colours and the
often rather generous flowers.

But if you enter one of these houses they open onto a wonderful,
airy room. Entrance hall, dining room, living room, inside yard
and often a swimming pool as well form a single, open unit conveying
an indescribably peaceful atmosphere.

This open way of building houses keeps it nice and cool, even without
an air conditioner. Beautiful antiques combined with modern furniture
invite you to linger and the fountain in the patio doesn't look out
of place but adds to the image of a perfect place to live.
Ok, but that's enough of celebrating for now. The rest of the week
is spent doing the usual jobs on the ship and with countless visits
to the old city centre.

One of the "writing offices" of Cartagena,
which I mentioned earlier, is near the flower market. Here you can
have someone write a letter or fill in an application on an old
typewriter for you.

From now on a regatta takes place in the bay of Cartagena on every
Saturday. Usually quite a mixed field starts here, from pure racers
to real old-timers. Everyone takes part
maybe SILVER BLUE
should also take part some day.

I've already made plans for next weekend: I'll be going to the carnival in
Baranquilla, which is supposed to be the best in South America, after Rio
that is.
If you like, you can read about that in a week.
Until then, take care
