16.01. - 22.02.2004

We're sailing with a strong wind all night and doing 5 Beaufort we should actually make a lot of progress, but the current is doing 2-3 knots and that against us, so we're not only dealing with a really unpleasant sea, we're also only managing 3 knots real ground covering speed! And that's not all - the current pushes us so far to the South that we're now heading for Columbia's pacific coast. We'll have to forget about our original plan of visiting the Islas Perlas on our way to Panama City, but around noon the conditions improve and we're doing 5-8 knots and manage to sail 30 degrees more to the north. So we set course for the province Daria. Everything is a lot more pleasant now and even some dolphins come to great us.

There are still lots of Indios living in the Province of Daria who make beautiful basket-vases. Darias heart is a widely spread system of rivers that can be used by ships.
But it's late and we need the radar to enter one of the pitch-black river mouths. At 11pm we drop anchor and stay for the night. The next morning we continue to La Palma, the Provinces "capital", a conglomerate of cute pile-works.
Here we drop anchor right in front of the Policia Nationals landing. Not for security reasons (Indios are very friendly), but because it's the only landing we can use for the dinghy during high tide. The difference in water levels is so big here that otherwise we'd have to walk through the mud - and that's really not necessary.

We spend another great day here and start making our way back to Panama City with the falling water at 2pm.
As we arrive there around noon the next day we enjoy the impressive sight of a corona right above SILVER BLUE.

Here in Panama City we'll be shopping for a lot of foodstuff and everything else that's missing so we can leave for the Galapagos Islands in March.

More from us, right here, next week, if you like …
Until then … take care!
