| This week the time of great celebrating begins. For a whole month there
will be music, dance performances, competitions and lots of other entertainment.
A large, well-ventilated hall was erected to this purpose, and will be
used for other events after that. Next to it 5 "Baraques" were
set up. No, not barracks, but little huts, artistically created out of
bamboo and palm leaves, where all sorts of delicious things are offered. |

The folkdances taking place each Saturday are the main event and main attraction. And here they haven't deteriorated to mere tourist attractions (there hardly are any), but reflect the locals' pure joy of living. |
Two groups have been practicing the whole week, for 2 - 3 hours,
at the landing and at school. Actually it's been going on for the entire
month. Everybody is allowed to watch and listen while they practice
and the drums accompanying them vibrate through your entire being. |

And the result of all those hours spent practicing is really worth it: a fantastic mixture of powerful dance and even more powerful drums, enchanting songs and graceful movements.

More about this great festival and other things, next week ...
… until then, take care!
